Well it appears that we are getting several photographers from Iowa joining APUG lately.

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in getting together for a day of shooting?

I could do it on any Sunday, or a Saturday if I have enough advanced notice to ask for the day off from work.

What do you think?

who are you outing Jim?

out·ing ( P ) Pronunciation Key (outng)
n.
1..An excursion, typically a pleasure trip.
2..A walk outdoors.
3..The exposing of one assumed to be or wishing to be considered heterosexual as being gay, lesbian, or bisexual.
4..An athletic competition or an appearance therein: The rookie pitcher threw a no-hitter in his first outing with the team.

I would have to say #1 Lee

I'm about 30 miles from the border. Does that count?

Cheers, Richard

I'm in Omaha. if it's a Saturday and centrally located ( Des Moines area) I would be in. It would have to be after mid-February for me as my oldest daughter has basketball on Saturdays untill then.

I'm about 3.5 hours SE of Des Moines according to Mapquest, but I'd be interested in anything you organize. Richard

I'm in for sure. With advance notice, I would be available most anytime.

me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm about 45min. from Des Moines!!!!

I've never been to Iowa, but I'm curious, where does one go to photograph in Iowa? I may be driving through in June and don't want to miss anything.

I'm interested - I'm in Council Bluffs so a central to west location would work best for me

We have lots of lovely barns and countryside here! My favorites to photograph are barns, old buildings and farms...etc...

An outing in Iowa? Let's see...drive north on Interstate 5 and turn right somewhere near Fresno and keep going...something like that??? Oh, I'd get lost any way. Have fun!!!

psst Sharon, you have to go all the way to Sacramento and turn right. Take 80 East. Have something along to keep you awake.

BTW ya'll need to go up to Coulter. many of the railway bridges in that part of Iowa were engineered by my Grandfather after he immigrated to this country. That is near Hampton, or if you really need a landmark, try Mason City.

Like I said, "I'd get lost"

Depending on when you choose to go, I might be able to make it. I have a bunch-o-prints to make for the local radio station. That has to be done first & I don't need any distractions from new negatives in the darkroom....

I am in Iowa. No car, though. And I'm in a tiny town. Ever heard of Webster City?

Having grown up in SW Iowa I'd like to suggest the Loess Hills along the Missouri River from near Hamburg to north of Council Bluffs. Take a look at this webpage for a description and information:

http://www.nfinity.com/~exile/loesspg.htm

These hills have a unigue landscape and a lot of scenic areas, old barns, parks, etc. that are very interesting.

I'm in Washington, DC now or I'd join you.

Jim,

I am interested in joining you for the day trip. I live in Atlantic, Iowa--80 miles west of DM, 60 miles east of Omaha. (For those of you coming from California, get on I-80, drive east approximately 2000 miles, turn south at exit 57 in Iowa, drive south 6 miles and you are in Atlantic). Most Saturdays or Sundays would work.

I shoot mainly LF and ULF.

Looks like we will have a nice group. Now we need to decide when and where.

I would say the SW or NE area of the state along one of the rivers would be good, but I'm open to suggestions.

As for when how does the last part of March or the first part of April sound?

End of March or early April sounds great Jim. As far as location, I'll leave that up to the rest of the group. I don't know much about the SW & NE corners of the state, but have always wanted a reason to see them. It sounds to me, though, that the SW corner will be closer for most of the group.

Early April works better for me than the end of March. Son #1 has spring break from March 23 to 28, Son #2 has the full last week of March off from college.

As for location, Ledges State Park is an idea. I have not been there for years, but memory tells me it is very nice. Located near Boone--a central location.

End of March won't really work for me...mainly due to the fact that I'll be going to pick up my enlarger in Omaha at that time. If we can get together in early April I can bore you guys with questions about my enlarger/papers/developers/etc.
