Our Show at the Wallkill River Gallery

My wife and I are having our second show at the Wallkill River Gallery in Montomery, New York for the entire month of April. We'll have an opening reception on Saturday, April 4th from 5 to 8 PM. The gallery inhabits the historic Patchett House, a mid 19th century structure that's been beautifully restored. It's located an Route 17K (Ward Street) in Montgomery just a little bit east of the center of town, which, btw, has some splendid restaurants and historic buildings if you'd like to also enjoy those pleasures!

My wife's paintings are a real treat. They're in the so called contemporary realist style, and they're just gorgeous. My work is what it is...but I like it!

Alas, here I are, outside Philly. There was a time in my impulsive youth when I would hop in the car and drive that far at the drop of a hat, but old age and increased traffic density has tempered my enthusiasm for that. Maybe a future event will coincide with a vacation excursion.

Thank you all for your kind support. The opening was a very happy event (and we even sold some work ). It was great to see Greg Miller there, and also a couple of folks from way-back who were a complete surprise, and a lot of fun.

As I'm a classical musician who finds performance can be fraught with nerves over the possibility of the slightest mishap during an in-the-moment presentation, a gallery opening is a real treat in a way, but still has a component of uncertainty. The work is done...it's as good as it's going to get. Those who attend either like it or they don't but the work is immutable and certain. So what's the concern? Will there be visitors, will there be enough wine, and goodies, will there be red dots.... Is there a gene that regulates stupid anxiety? Fortunately, Susan and I have slept reeeeeeaaaaally well since, and whatever the downsides may have been, they'll soon be completely forgotten!

Serendipity strikes ...

In response to my wife deciding she needed a change of scene for Easter weekend, we booked Friday & Saturday nights in Woodstock, NY. The weather was not all that cooperative; Saturday afternoon as we walked out on the Ashokan Dam under dreary clouds, there were occasional whitecaps stirred up by the 40º wind.

I had originally hoped to stop in Montgomery on Sunday on the way home, but with hiking outside so chilling, we instead used Saturday afteroon to drive down to Montgomery and get a chance to see work by Jovo at arm's length! (No, I left no nose prints ... ) Turns out, it's good that we did, as the gallery would have been closed for Easter Sunday.

We both thoroughly enjoyed seeing the real thing and we were very impressed with Mrs. Jovo's oils too; a really nice painterly touch on some beautiful scenes.

George Hayes was keeping an eye on things, and upon discovering the electronic connection that prompted the visit, along with learning of my entanglement in art doings here, we got the red carpet tour. The venue is a sizeable 150(?) year old brick house, beautifully restored. The art group is doing all sorts of great stuff with fantastic community support, we should all be so lucky! George filled us in on some tips for restaurants, which looked very nice but we ended up not taking advantage of, as it was a bit early, but we did drive through the historic part of town to check that out.

So it was a very enjoyable visit; sorry we didn't make the opening, but at least we took in the show.
