Other than snapshots - how often do you do b/w?

Just a thought. Across at the other side, many people including myself shoot a lot of b/w with film. Re: digital how much of it roughly off your head do you post process the images into b/w?

When I want color prints (snapshots), I use digital. For my "serious photography", I use B&W film so I can't really answer your question........Regards!

I shoot what I intend to become B&W on a Sigma SD9 with the IF filter removed. Although a first generation DSLR with a low MP count, the pixels are big and has good dynamic range, takes very little effort to convert from color to B&W in Corel.

Takes zero effort to convert color files to myriad potential B&W renderings, "realistic" or not, using NIK Silver Efex (which is still free). I use that process to reinforce my previsualization...or to rethink visually. I select one (or more) renderings, modify them using PS, and print. I select paper based mostly upon relative importance of solid black areas....e.g. a glossy paper (such as Canon Platinum) or a matte paper if black areas aren't dominant (many good ones available). Or I use a paper like Ilford Gold Fiber Silk if I prefer a compromise, or a warmer paper.

I devoted several days last week to b/w printing (from digital camera and antique scan files), only an hour or two this week (crude proofing with desktop laser). I plan to devote hours again next week, half of that time in color (same Canon Pro 10 printer) with scans from old color negs and slides (gifts for family).

I mostly shoot digital color, intending B&W prints (am doing that today)...over time I'm shooting multiple rolls 35/HP5/Rodinal 1+100 Nikonscan for a project that's taking more time than I'd envisioned... I'm almost enjoying the time this is taking,..it might have been over and done if I was shooting it digital.
