ORWO Film availability in Europe

I suppose I can roll along as things happen. Just had a confirmation from Filmotec about shipment of 2 spools, so this is as good as one would have hoped given insignificant order size to a private person with no assurance this is not just one-off. Payment by bank transfer is one thing that slows things down a bit, so that is just what it took for them to see the money and shipment immediately after.

Well, it's about timing. International bank transfers are not recorded on continual basis, but rather in time slots each day. If you miss one, it goes into a
queue for next, so it is all relative. Even so, update was 2 days after I made the transfer, so can't see how they could pull if off any faster.

Being non EUR zone slows things, because SEPA payments are now really fast, it’s basically matter of hours or minutes (depending on your bank - if it’s a part of instant payment system or not).

My bank is, apparently one that Filmotec uses is not. When you trigger transfer it will show push payment option IF receiving bank accepts it and I did not get that option. Either way, even if they had the money same day (which would have been at closing office hours) I can't complain about 2 days to ship after I initiated the payment.

I agree, they are quite fast and I was very happy with their service so far. And flexibility. I was buying some DN21 from them. They only had 295m rolls. OK, I said, that is too much... In a couple of hours they came back - there are some short ends, maybe 100-150m, but they can only confirm later when they measure, if I am interested. I was. I bought that roll of 122m and I am extremely happy.

Film came in, no problems at all from start to finish. Response was fast, packing secure, well padded. What else one could ask for?

Kind of too bad it isn't even officially mentioned on Filmotec website as direct purchase being an option. While there are hardly much savings by going direct, it appears as best shot to get what one wants fast and probably as fresh as it can be.

Recently they added the term "Direktvertrieb" to their address at the contact page, meaning direct sales.

They also added a retailer for photo conversions of their films called Christian Darr (actually a german Ebay seller, who does the type 135/24 conversions himself).
All his films are stated to be fresh. However his Orwo Infraredfilm (not even Maco marked this film in their conversion as infrared film) has last been listed by Filmotec in 2013.
Also he sells the films in used cassettes.

I just received a 100ft spool of N75 direct from ORWO in Wolfen. It took less than a week from when I contacted them via email to having it sitting on my kitchen table in Ireland.

Heck, that's as good as B&H, better than Adorama to me -- and I'm only about 8 hours' drive from NYC.

Hopefully we're not doing too much advertising for them so they won't stop this process altogether.

for stills,we are used to bulk film being on a core, just a reminder that ORWO generally only winds their film on a core and not a spool. could be a shock for a 16mm movie maker who was expecting a spool and gets film on a core.

Hopefully we're not doing too much advertising for them so they won't stop this process altogether.

I doubt we can drive enough volume to be a problem . Most still shooters will probably just buy from eBay or similar I would guess.

16mm in 30.5 m lengths is supplied on spool by Filmotec.

My main draw to going direct is presumed freshness of the film stock. At least it is coming direct form the factory. Any secondary seller may or may not be storing it right.

Agreed. I also like knowing exactly what it is and where it came from. Zero chance it's something else in an Orwo can.
