Ferropolis is nice to visit and great for photographing if you like old machinery. You can get there by taking the train to Dessau Hauptbahnhof (stop and see the Bauhaus museum there) and then bus 331 (direction: Gräfenhaininchen) which stops at Ferropolis.

years ago i toured the granite state potato chip factory in salem new hampshire .. and i had a very good time

Fair enough, I'll add visiting a potato chip factory to my list of 101 things to do before I die.
