Hi, I normally use Ilford RC and sometimes Ilford FB, but I want to try the Oriental Seagull Select VC-FB and I wonder if anyone has experience with it using the Ilford Rapid Fixer. On Oriental website the fix step is from 5 to 10 mins but Ilford recommendation for Ilford Rapid fixer 1+4 is 1 min. Any thoughts?

Oriental seems to give fixing times for sodium thiosulfate (slow fix) rather than ammonium thiosulfate rapid fix, but they dont't specify that's what they mean. I noticed the same times in the specs of some other Oriental paper I just bought, and I just ignored it and fixed the Ilford way.

I use both products for the last 5 years. I dilute 1+9 the fixer and fix for 2mn30. I never had any trouble of any kind (apart the fact that I am a very average printer not it is another story...).

Well, Ilford guidance is not THAT clear... I diluted 1+9 when Hypam was still available.; I do the same with Rapid Fixer.

Hypam is still available. I get it from B&H and it is what I use and I dilute 1:9 as well and fix for two minutes, one in each bath (two-bath). I'm using the oriental paper as well.

Ilfords times for 1:4 assume minimum time in fixer to allow for shorter wash times. A hypo clearing agent should be used with fiber paper always. I hypo clear for 5 minutes than wash for an hour. Just tested my washed prints the other day and they tested perfect for archival levels.

I should wrote: when Hypam was available in 1 liter bottle...
