Oriental Seagull Paper

Does anyone have experience with Oriental Seagull Fiber Paper? According to the Oriental Website, it's rather delicate and particular. My goal is to produce truly Rich blacks and Brilliant whites when shooting white flowers agains black backgrounds.

ka - oriental is indeed among the very best papers. try it. another paper i can recomened u with what u want (blacks and briliant white) is the ilford md glossy. as far as i know, it has the most briliant whites. personally i dont really like this briliant and "fleshing" whites, but once i used it and loved it. the blacks of the ilford are very good as well.

I use Oriental Seagull fiber paper extensively. I use both the variable contrast and the graded paper. The graded paper is capable of producing excellent prints.

Does anyone have experience with Oriental Seagull Fiber Paper?

I only have experience of the paper made before the Company restricted its exports to the West a few years ago. It tones readily in gold and I would love to see some of your flowers on a gallery as this is something I am interested in.

Donald, do you find the quality and properties of the paper and the emulsion unchanged from the period before the restrictions on overseas exports were brought in ? I have not bought any for a long time.

Tell me: are there any processing secrets of which I should be aware? What sort of developer, etc do you prefer with this paper?

I find that graded Oriental Seagull is the nearest thing to the old Zone VI Brilliant that I have found to this point. It's normal tone is very similar and it tones very nicely with selenium. I can't say about gold toning since I haven't tried that. I develop mine in Zone VI print developer which is very near Dektol. However it seems to support shadows better then Dektol. Normal dilution is 1-3.

I have also used the Oriental Seagull VCFB paper. It is a nice variable contrast paper. However it does not have the depth that graded Seagull has.

I was in Silverprint the other day and I discovered that G4 is going to be discontinued after one more batch-so start stocking up if you use it a lot. Developer wise, it responds well to amidol (Brett Weston used this combo a lot) and also Beers. Try Ansco 130 as well.

i use lpd or ansco 130 and it is my favorite paper.
