Greetings everyone

I'm looking for a thin rubber ring for the eye piece of my FM3a. I use glasses and the camera's threaded metal edge around the ocular scratches my glasses.

If I'm not mistaken Nikon made such rings in the past but it seems very difficult to find them these days.

Are there any other options, like rings from other cameras or camera brands that fit the FM3a or perhaps Chinese knock-offs?

If all else fails I'll use black duct tape around the metal edge, but ideally if like something more proper.

Thank you kindly in advance
Philip

If it's the same one as the FM, FM2, then Nikon 2925 - BH is out of stock right now, but other stores have it.

Go to your local Harbor Freight store and buy the two sets of "O"rings, SAE and Metric, they cost very little and build a 'rubber' no scratch eye piece.

Going through the rings for the best fitting set, both on the camera eye piece and a larger ring or two raised in top of the first piece seeing if you like the fit, some Scott's poster/double sided tape can be trimmed into two or three short lengths so you can pick up the camera and see if you like the fit.

If you do, replace the clean chosen rings and disassemble the working model.

You'll need average Loctite, stronger Super Glue but all you do, now you know what you're making, is to have a sheet of wax paper as a work station, apply a thin line of glue to the first O-ring in the middle of the laying flat ring top and gently fix the second ring on top of the circle of the first, glue bearing ring.

Carefully apply soft pressure to the top side of the assembly or place a fifty cent piece or old style silver dollar on the top side and leave overnight to cure.

The larger, third ring goes on top of the second ring in the same way, and again leave it to cure 24 hours, preferably longer, so any glue vapors have completely fled the assembly and it's now likely safe for your optics, IMO, (but no guarantees) to wear on your camera.

I suggest you allow several days more curing time, just to be sure it's finished, and placing it in a bag or case.

If needed, you can always place additional rings on this tool, but the Super Glue will hold the rings tightly together.

You can also use a razor to cut a ring into a circumference/ smaller length you like better and rejoin the ' new' ring with Super Glue, which should have no trouble working in this application

Good luck and Cheers

In addition the thicker standard F3 rubber ring fits (but not the HP one) and when I've lost the rubber eyepiece on my Fuji GW690/GW670 cameras I've replaced it with a Nikon ring as a straight swap so I guess it will work the other way around and I see somebody in China is selling these on eBay.
