sorry foidpoosening i didn't realize this was in the 35mm forum when i posted my post
in this order:
yashica T4 and use that, or the
agfa optima sensor
pen 1/2 frame
m3 and a 50mm.

my reasoning:
the T4 is probably the best PS camera ever made.
it makes PERFECT exposures every time, has a look through as well as WLF, optics that are beautiful, sharp, nice bokeh, accurate focusing
fill flash works great. ( downside is they don't make them anymore and wellused ones might have dead focusing
the agfa is a sweet RF type P/S .. zone focusing is a PITA i hate that, but if you get used to it sweet lens, bright ez viewer, light weight camera.
pen 1/2 frame .. sweet optics slr rugged, perfectly weighted, and lots of exposures / roll, so less to deal with.
m3 + 50mm .. its a great camera, great lens, pain to load from the bottom though, and kind of heavy.

Well, I'm sort of doing it at the moment. In Washington DC for a few days from my native Yorkshire. I'm travelling light, so it's Nikon FM3a, 55mm micro Nikkor and Voigtlander 20mm, orange filter and a lot of HP5 and Delta 3200. I'm hoping that will cover it!

OK, well, being unfamiliar with the T4, your comment gets my attention, so I jump over to eBay for a quick look. Holy Macaroni! Geez, from $200 to over $500 for a P&S? Now my curiousity has been piqued. But no way am I gonna pay over $200 to find out. Guess I'll have to start doing the CL/garage sale/thrift store prowl in the hopes of finding out.

If I have enough money I may get a nice Leica M3+50mm lens and travel around the world.

Otherwise, OM-1n + 28mm f/3.5 + 50mm f/1.8 and leave enough room for film.

If space is constraint then two Olympus XAs and lots of film.

I'd bring something cheap and unbreakable which needs no battery. Sadly, this leaves my Mamiya out.

If light, then a Pentax MX.
If middle heavy, then middle format and a Kiev 60. I have one that really works and I am not afraid to use it.

It depends on the amount of luggage allowed.

Very true! But that wasn't my point, and is why I said I'd actually probably bring a canon AE1p if it was ever to come down to it. But I was just curious to see what others would bring.
I wouldn't bring a Canon AE1P although I'm a Canon enthusiast the canon A series cameras were a consumer grade camera whose original design philosophy wasn't to last forever but to have a limited usable life that has long past, and it's more than twenty years since the last A series camera was made.

I would choose a camera that was designed for heavy professional use a Canon F1, Nikon F, Leica M, Hasselblad 500 series, and I would have whatever I chose checked and given a complete service before I set off on my round the World travels.
