I've been using my EOS Rebel XSi almost exclusively for a couple years now, and while it's been fun, there was something amiss. Today, my wife found my Nikon FM10, which I picked up a few years ago before I went digital... to learn on, buried in the dogs' supply bin. How it got there, I have NO idea. There were a few frames left on the Fuji 400 film, so I burned 'em at the park while my 4 year old flew her Spongebob kite. I also have the temporary use of a Yashica 24, along with one roll of 100 Tri-X, which I've loaded but haven't used yet. I'm looking forward to it, though. Those big bright ground glass viewfinders are something else!
The same guy who handed me the Yashica also showed me his Crown Graphic. Whoa. The contact prints he showed me from that camera were out-freaking-standing. I got a thrill that my nice digital camera never did give me, and there was something... indescribable about tripping the shutter on even the "low-end" FM. I may never do much with large format, but working with fine grained b&w 35mm and maybe an inexpensive 120 camera is really appealing to me right now.

Background note... I have developed film before, though I've never made prints from 'em. Gave away my tank and other stuff when I moved from Bama to AR.

Welcome from the south-west corner of Canada.

Hope you enjoy it here.

About your FM10 - maybe the dog has been sneaking out behind your back and shooting his own photos .

Great, now I'll bet he's started up a doggie porn site with Lucy (our other dog) as his model. Gotta keep an eye on these guys...
I'll have another look at the film for the TLR, as I really don't wanna mess up with my only roll of 220 film. Thanks.

Nikon FM10 with Fuji 400 film... way out of date...
Maybe I need to go back and read the manual for my wonder-digicam, but lemme tell ya, even this flatbed scan of a Walgreen's one-hour print
blows away the color and detail of my XSi.

Too bad color processing costs so much. I'll probably have to use black-n-white in the film cameras mostly, and study up on how to optimize my digi for color.

Spacer - hello and welcome to APUG from western Massachusetts. There's plenty of inexpensive film developing gear out there, so maybe you'll be developing and printing sometime soon in the future!! :D

Hi, and welcome to APUG. After the initial cost of all the processing gear (most can be found used and cheap(or free)), your cost to develop your own film will be very low.

Should we warn him about GAS?

Oh, that's ok. Gas is only a problem if I eat cheap Mexican food... and my wife has told me that while she'll kick me outta the bedroom, she'll still love me.

GAS is Gadget Acquisition Syndrome. It is a fast rising pressure to buy yet another piece of photographic equipment. The only known cure for GAS is to buy more photographic equipment because otherwise the pressure will keep on rising!
