I have listed the complete list of pieces that are available. See the April 15 dialogue box below . I am trying to sell the whole lot as a kit.

I have a D5XL with color head available (including power supply , color analyzer, Lenses, negative carriers , timer, easels , processing drums and motor base) Everything you need to print color or B&W up to 4X5
Because of the size it is available in the New York City and surrounding area. I will deliver. Otherwise your pickup upstate New York
Make an offer.

Dang. If you were anywhere in Virginia, NC, SC, West Virginia, or eastern Tennessee, I'd be all over this -- but upstate NY would be a three day round trip from here (full long day each way, which would require a day on that end to rest, meet, load, etc.).

If you don't get an offer, and if the color head will fit an older Model D (unsure which version or how to tell), I'd be interested in parts of this...

I believe all the D Omegas will accept this head, but check the manuals online to be sure or get a sewing tape, cloth measurement from the seller, of the top of the enlarger where all heads mount.

It does sound nice though.

Cheers

Sorry to feed the digression, but the trick with getting the correct rods and lift arms. I got a D2 and D4 from someone. The D4 had a trashed focusing system, so I moved the color head from the D4 to the D2 but I had to do a weird mix and match of pieces from both systems. I don't do color, but a color head with yellow and magenta filters makes printing on variable contrast paper a breeze.

Thanks for your interest in the Omega Enlarger. It is too bad that enlargers because of their size present a logistical problem or we could make a deal.
I would like to keep the complete unit together if possible even though I know that selling the individual parts would add up to a lot more than what I would receive for the complete unit. If I remember correctly the unit cost me $2500.00 . I know today's prices are extremely low compared to their original cost.
The only thing I could mention is from what I see on this site and ebay; some sales of enlargers ship via transport strapped to a pallet or packed in a large card board box. Though the chances of damage is very high with that type of transport. As well I have no idea what this would entail as to costs or whether that can be done under today's circumstances .
As far as adapting the dichroic head to an older D type is a good question. Unfortunately I donated my D2V two months ago to a photo coop in Vermont or I could compare the two mounts to see if it is compatible. If I remember correctly the mounts looked very similar and I would not be surprised that you could mount the head on another D type.
Let me see what kind of offers come in in the next couple weeks and I will revisit your offer at that time.

For everyone's Information the D5 Enlarger has a Super Chromega D Dichroic 11 Lamphouse # 404-834 with a standard power supply # 412-021 and stabilizer # 404-841. As per KHB (linked above) the head is compatible with D2 through D6 and ProLab 11 enlargers. Mounting Kits available . Donald you must ID your model. Hope this helps

Okay, it appears I have a D2 with DV lamphouse (which I presume would be replaced by the color head), which has been converted to a Zone VI cold light. Am I correct that the color head would mount to the top of the silver-colored cylindrical section (being a diffuser unit that wouldn't use the condensors, even if I had the glass)?

If you look at you D2, and pull the lever to raise the lamp house, the entire part that raises is what gets replaced when you change to a Dichroic head. If you looks on either side of the lamp house, you will see two arms (on each side, total of 4). Each of the arms have a thumb screw. Loosen all, four thumb screws, and the the lamp should lift out (I don’t remember any other connection.). The dichroic head is much wider, so the arms on the right need to be loosened from the shaft, then slid out to be wide enough. If your existing pivot rods (I don’t know what they’re really called, but the rods that the lifting arms are connected to) are not long enough to hold the arms far enough apart, you will need longer arms. The other potential issue is Omega made two different length arms. If the new lamp is built for the same length arms, you’re good, but if not you will need the other length arms.

KHB is a great source for info, advice and accessories.

Thanks, guys. Honestly, if I can, I'd rather get the whole enlarger -- then I know it'll all work together without having to find all the fiddly bits (and I fix stuff for a living, so I'm well aware that working on unfamiliar equipment usually turns into reordering parts two or three times because you need stuff you didn't know you needed and/or ordered the wrong bit the first time).

Google says it's just about 11 hours from here to there, though I'm certain that'll be longer once a person can make the drive without risking getting arrested just for driving somewhere other than work.

I should probably hold this off until I'm through paying for my darkroom construction anyway; @David Reynolds if you get another offer, don't hold on my account. I should be able to get the contractor started as soon as my "impact payment" comes in, and I haven't filed my tax return yet...

I have done some research on converting a D2 to hold a dichroic head . Abruzzi is correct you will probably need extended rods to lift the head. Omega produced a kit to convert a D2 to hold a color head. The part number is # 429-112. The problem is at retail this part is going for $200.00 if you can find it. With that in mind it is cheaper to find a D5 chassis in day's marketplace and not have to convert the D2.
Donald --There have been many D5's come to the market and at incredible prices (cheap) as enlargers are fetching very low prices. I would monitor both these classified and ebay's . I 'm sure an enlarger will come up to your price and liking. The kit I am offering will seem high in price until one factors in all the equipment that comes with it.

I have this enlarger and before that Kodak made these enlargers available for the employees after hours. I am very happy with the Omega D5XL.

If you live in the United States, the correct SAE sized rods should be at most local hardware stores. I used two locking collars instead of the sleeves to keep things from shifting back and forth. The Allen screws on the arms are also SAE.

I used the D5XL for 35 years as well as a D2V for even longer. It was a great enlarger . I retired in 2012 and sold it via this thread. The D2V was donated to the Vermont Center for Photography (VCP) so both enlargers are still producing great photos.
