I have a d5500 head and controller that I have used as a light source for slide duplication. I would like to buy a chassis and turn it into an enlarger. My question is, does the d5500 use the same carriers and lensboards as other D series Omega enlargers? Also, I would be interested in hearing comments from anyone who has used this enlarger.

I have a D5500 and use it all the time. The Dichroic Head can be mounted to a "D" Series enlarge via an Omega Adapter. I am not sure of the carriers - I only use the sandwich type for 35mm, 6x6 and 6x7. Lensboards --- agian I don't know - I have the three lens turret.
I love this puppy... I find it *very* stable and repeatable ... no problem to go back to a negative six months from now and still have the color in balance.

Thanks Ed, I noticed that you used a d5500 in a previous post and hoped that you'd respond. I have been very happy with the closed loop head but have never even seen the enlarger as a unit. I'm a bit concerned about finding the carriers and lensboards that I would need. It would be great if they were the same ones that the other Omega 4x5s use.

Neal, I have an Omega DII with a Super Chromega D head and use both new and old carriers. From what I have been told, the only thing about the new holders is that they have a small frame around the bottom as well as the two notches in the back to set them in place when inserted into the enlarger head. When the framed part drops into place you know it's in properly - although I've never had any problems with the old style sandwich type. You could also check with the people at KHB Photografix to be sure. Their site is www.khbphotografix.com

Hope this helps. I also ended up with a few carriers for formats I've never seen when I bought the enlarger. One looks like 4x4 square and another like half 35mm.
