I had not seen that one before. Looks like it will do the trick.

So that makes at least 4 different ones they made, 429-084, 429-085 and 429-086 (for 5x7) and the one you just got. I wonder if there is a number on it.

I got the bellows/focusing stage today and it's just what the doctor ordered. All my problems are solved and I didn't have to modify anything. I looked for numbers on the unit, but couldn't find any or I don't know where to look. JohnW

Thanks for posting your followup on that focusing unit. Next time I see one I may pick it up for my friend.

I think it was a good investment and I'll recoup some of the cost when I sell off my extra lens cones. I was a little worried about it being rigid enough, but it seems to be built pretty darn good. The thing I like is now I can use my 180mm Componon-S. I couldn't and probably never would have found a cone long enough to use the 180mm. I'm going to keep my eyes open for another so I don't have to swap between my D3-dichro and my D3V. Swapping isn't a big problem, but it would make things easier. JohnW

photomem,
That would be great if you did. What lenses do you use on your D3? I would use manual focus also, but you almost must have a track in place that's close to your focal length or you won't be able to get proper focus. Thus, why I ask what lenses you use. We might be able to work something out. JohnW

I've had a D3 since 1964, and have only had the track for the 135mm that came with it. I've used all manner of lenses on it for which I've made simple sticks that hold the wheel mechanism at a distance that works, then I manual focus. It's easy. Sure it would be nice to have the tracks, but they really aren't essential.

I looked into the aux. focusing attachment a... I was going to buy if for my friend but the last digit was one number off (429-085 instead of 429-084, indicating it was for D2 instead of D3) but it did not go for much as I recall and could probably be easily adapted to the D3.

I needed one in a hurry once to make reductions, and the only one available was for the D2. I had an extra lens cone, probably for a 90 or something like that, and did a bit of butchery. I have just left it on the machine ever since.
