I need to purchase 2 6x7 carriers for the Omega D2 and I am not having much luck. Does anyone know if this holder will work, or did they make a flat carrier, or even a glass carrier for 6x7?

What's the deal with the wings on that thing anyway? I have a couple of 6x6 holders but I don't want to file them out if I don't have to.

Also, can anyone recommend a reasonably priced source other than ebay for carriers?

The wings are to hold an uncut roll of film. I have a 35mm carrier like that. They do make flat carriers for a single frame - I haven't seen one for 6x7 but then again I haven't looked. I have an extra 4x5 holder as well as the 35mm one if you're interested.

Do you know if this style holder will work in the D2? This is a different style of carrier then I have in other formats.

I am looking for a 4x5 glass carrier as well. I currently have a 4x5 glassless.

This looks like a Besseler holder. If so, it lacks the 4 "pegs" on the bottom to lock into an Omega enlarger and it lacks the two grooves in the back that the holder slides into. In fact, the springs at the back may interfere with insertion.

I have an Omega and a Besseler, and I happen to have that holder. If I can dig it up, I'll try it in the Omega. How is that?

Well, I tried it and amazingly it fits. The two springs in the back fit between the pegs that center an Omega holder but on the bottom there are 4 pegs on the holder. They fit the wide opening in my Omega but may not in some.

In any event, I have no problem with my unit as shown above.

You can see the pegs in the photo. When the carrier is open, the pegs are not projecting below the frame, but when closed, they protrude about 1/4".

Omega D size carriers are on Ebay all the time. I'm not sure what your objection to Ebay is, but there is no reason to pay what a new one costs when a used one can be had (with a little patience) for 10-20 dollars. The "glassless" ones are just two pieces of aluminum.

The picture is for a 'rapid-shift' D-Series carrier.

As a new rapid shift will set you back ~$175 and a glassless ~$100, I can only second the recommendation to find a used carrier. Either the buy/sell/trade section of APUG or rec.photo.marketplace.darkroom should yield some joy; ebay is always available for when the devil needs to be paid his due.

For some reason I ended up with 3 flat style 6x7 carriers for my D5.
They have the 2 slots on the back but my D5 does not have pins for the slots to register with.
They have a flange on the bottom to center them in the stage and allow them to be rotated.
The flange can be removed also.
I think they fit D2s also, n ot 100% sure though.
They turn up on the big auction site all the time and are cheap.

I only wish I had a 6x7 camera now, or a 6x7 holder for my Super Graphic.

That's exactly what I use on my DII. The wings 'hold' the roll of film as it curls. Great carrier, I find it very convenient.

I've a glass 4x5 rapid shift carrier. The glass is scratched and it's a bitch to find replacement glass. Unfortunately.

I can attest that the 6x7 carrier that you posted holds the film as flat as i've ever needed it.

I have Omega carriers with the flange. They fit on my D2V with no problem. The flange either fits the opening and locks it in place or I can turn it upside down and rotate it to any position. Then the sponge holds it down.
