Hi everyone,

I recently purchased an Omega D2 from an APUG member. I am trying to assemble it at home, but I'm having trouble getting the condenser part to line up with the negative carrier.

I'm all ears to anyone who can tell me how this should go!

Of course, if I haven't shown you enough pictures to tell, let me know. I can work it out quickly. Thanks!

You got the bar assembly upside down. On the first photo, I can see you placed a large L shaped assembly for the top screw and pointing up. No. That one goes to the bottom screw with handle bar pointing DOWN. Let me post a photo of mine for you.

Here ya go

Haha - thanks!

I knew I had it all wrong, but I'm not too proud to ask;-)

Now, I'm going to go down to the basement and fix it. I may be back with more questions in this thread!

You will be rewarded when it's all done. It's a wonderful piece of American engineering. I have two here. PM me if you need help and I don't answer here.

ask away,
i have one and they work great and can be versitile.
i retrofitted a dichroic head on mine and print color now.

Okay, I have the lifter arms flipped to the normal position, but the condenser is still not lining up with the negative carrier. Here are more pictures:

I need you to back up a bit and take a side view like I did for you. Your condenser assembly is too far back and I can't see how pivoting part is installed.

Okay, here's a side view from further away. Also, I believe that this may have been modified. It's starting to look like there are some elements that are not painted with the same matte. I believe I may have the not-so-rare frankenstein model...

You seem to have a custom piece.... or maybe not all parts are from D2.

Couple of weird things...

How "thick" is the slanted "vertical" railing? Mine is only 1 3/4" from back to front. Your piece looks much thicker.
See you have two pieces of "tabs" with screw with nothing attached? The aluminum bar with brass rods go there, not where it is now.
The bottom piece looks to have something attached it to move it forward.

Compare yours closely with mine and see the difference.

I won't be surprised there were some versions during the LooooooooooooooooNG time Omega produced these but it looks like yours have been customized.

The lifting arm looks like it should be on the other side.

Oh, I see it!

Another thing.... Your long bar is on the WRONG SIDE. See the red knob? That's supposed to be facing outside, not inside.

Are there teeth cut on back side of your rail? And your rails are significantly thicker? If so, you have D2, not DII.

The rail is definitely from D2.... the spring load balancer is on top.

I have a D2 as well if you need a picture from it.

Looking closely to the earlier photos, the shiny painted pieces does not belong there. Crinkled finish pieces does....
Maybe someone had a color head on there.

Okay, so the labels clearly say D2 not DII.

Is the long lifting arm supposed to be on the bottom but facing up or???

Also, there is definitely a piece that has been added to make the negative carrier stick out farther.

Here is a D2, from KHB's site - the lifting arm is on the top.

Let me take a picture of mine (D2) for you.

Omegas are confusing but the difference between D2 and DII are mainly the rails.
They shared the same lamp housing and condenser assembly, so they may say DII or D2. It really doesn't matter.

Hold on. Mine is in garage.

This is D2 from side, taken from RIGHT side if you are facing it from front.

Take off the extra extension pieces and you should be there.

Okay - I got it all lined up and everything appears to work properly. Thanks to everyone for the help, I couldn't have done it without you!

Yay, congrats!

Just remember, you got one of the more popular enlarger in US.... if you need anything for it, just post it in classified and someone is bound to have a spare.....
