For the Omega D series users, what do you guys think about those carriers that are named rapid shift, it has some concave shape in each side for the roll of film to seat, I never used either the normal carrier or this type and I am shopping for a couple of carriers. I was wondering if they are any useful or not.

I guess my question is: Do I get rapid shift carriers or regular ones?

thanks,

I would go with regular carriers. The Rapid shift was designed to hold the film in uncut rolls not cut strips.
Other than that and the spring to help lift the top plate, they're the same thing.

So THAT'S what those are for! I always wondered what the weird handles on the sides of my 35mm and 6x7 carriers were. I just got them when I bought the enlarger so I didn't really have to make a choice. They work just fine for me with normal neg strips!

The springs lift the top plate so that you can just raise the head and pull the strip through to the next frame to print without removing the carrier.
Good for production, but not necessarily so great if you worry (or need to worry) about scratches.
