Hey,

I'm having a problem with my camera and I can't find any information on it anywhere. I'm using the om-2s and it's not working. It has an auto and a program mode but it doesn't work. I click the shutter but it stays closed shut and never takes the picture. I thought it was a battery problem so i changed it but i still didn't work. The only way to use it is on the manual override on the lens on B mode or a permanent 1/60th of a second. Any clue what could be happening?

It would be worthwhile to start your own thread on this subject, but I'll mention here that the OM-2s is very battery dependent. If the battery is not a fresh, silver-oxide version, the camera may not function properly.

It is written on the internet that the zuiko 50mm f1.8 lens that is labelled "made in Japan" is the most desirable version for its image making ability.
I've not done a comparison.

I seem to recall testing the MIJ against an older version a number of years ago. The MIJ was noticably sharper.

It is also a 6 elements in 4 groups.
The second group is enclosed in a crimped metal housing. There's no way to get into it without destroying it.
It is not maintainable and so it isn't desirable for me.

If you have two as new lenses there should not have been a lot of difference except from the single coating v multi coating.

The earlier single coated lenses are preferred by some users. As the single coating shows in photos but IQ does not.

It is normally easier to fix sleepy iris problems with the MIJ lenses as only the registration ring needs removal and a wipe with cotton bud, however the screws may be glued in.

Contiminated battery contacts next possible option cotton rag vigorous scrub, avoid sharp edge scrapers.

Other options

Damaged battery wire batteries have corrosive compounds which leak and can wick under insulation and dissolve copper...

Wax on shutter relay the shutter is controlled by dinky electro magnets which need a clean every decade or two.

There is also a reset procedure to follow, involving the shutter speed ring, but I've forgotten exactly.

I got this olympus around last year and still haven't been able to shoot it bc I don't have a lens for it. I bet it's an amazing camera, Anyone shot one of these before?

Yes, i did, with the Zuiko 55/1.2 lens and the Vivitar 285HV flash. I did not experience any problem with battery consumption, but of course I turned off the camera after using.

It's a good camera, with special features like the TTL OTF metering, but I liked other cameras more.

For lenses any 50mm lens will do. I did not like the 55/1.2; but no doubt you'll be happy with a f1.4 or f1.8.
