Found Olympus OM-2S or OM-4 Ti

Having some bad luck with my current spat of OM bodies. Just looking for an easy camera to throw my OM lenses on!

I have a fondness for the OM-2S but the one I got cheap is capping and has pinholes in the curtains. Looking for a new one or considering an upgrade.

I’d also totally go for an OM-4 if you could vouch for it being gentle on batteries.

Both my OM-4 are old circuit. John Hermanson elected not to try to fix their issues. So I wouldn’t wish them on anyone.


Have an OM-4T that I bought for parts that actually works pretty well.

I was surprised by the OM-2s. A friend gave me one with issues (that if you search you’ll find how deep my attempt at repair went). I was impressed enough to pick up one of my own that worked, and while I got some nice results it’s a bit of a lemon. So back in the search for an automatic OM body that uh… works

You can test what circuit you have
I have both cameras and the OM4ti metering is so advanced.
The entire camera is decades ahead of om2

My OM-2s has given me decades of great service. They are an example of a camera that either has the un-repairable circuit board problem that some have, and is therefore dead, or they work well.
But they are old now, so ...
I too have both cameras, although mine is badged as an OM-4T, because that is how they were sold in Canada.

But I prefer OM-2n, it's less heavy and for the most of the situations it gives a nice exposure.

Never owned OM-4Ti. Nevertheless all those circuits are old and I am biasing to mechanical cameras (OM-1 or OM-1n) any day.

I shot professionally for 10 years (mid 1980s - 1990s) with an OM4ti and it never let me down.

Can't say how it would hold up today although I still have my backup camera from that period, an OM10, and it still works.

I thought the OM4ti had a great metering system, for the era. It had average, spot, memory and OTF (off the film) and if used with the system flash, full TTL, OTF and 1/250 flash speed.

One of the curtain strings has jumped a pulley, but I think to get it back on i’ll have to remove the whole shutter assembly and I don’t want to

In any case the use case for an OM-2S or OM-4 Ti camera as opposed to an OM-1 is for travel photography with the family where saving time saves me a frustrated wife and kids. Good automatic metering makes for a more fun experience for everyone.

I could be convinced that I’d be just as happy with the OM-2n and a high quality but center weighted meter.

You will be surprised how the meter in OM-1n puts the exposure in the ballpark provided you take care of the development and not shoot anything extraordinary.

Sure, the OTF metering is better but given the aging circuit in -2n et al I would think twice about buying an another electronic camera.

*But if you win auction for €/$/£25 then it's okay.

For clarity, the OM-2s does offer the off the film metering - both flash and ambient - and added a Program exposure mode that the others didn't offer.

Spend the $$$$ on an OM-3,, you don't need auto exposure modes.

Wowww people really don’t want to sell me their old OM-2S’s. Y’all. I OWN an OM-1! I enjoyed shooting in auto when traveling. I’m okay that it’s electronic and not a forever camera. I have other cameras for that

It’s true OM-3 drains batteries but you get the picture anyway (because before bringing the camera up to focus you instinctively select a shutter speed and f/stop that’s likely to be close). Once you realize battery is dead you can decide to go by feel or try a phone app light meter.

Last time it happened to me I had to purchase, download, learn and use the app for the first time while deciding which mole to get (I went with dark meat chicken mole).

I tell you the app lightmeter is not fast unless you practice I suppose.

The T-280 flash is similar in concept to the digital SLR with its flash in HSS mode...the flash output is a prolonged duration emission of light in order to provide illumination while the slit in the shutter curtain can pass across the entire distance acrossed the frame, so the light intensity is reduced compared to shooting with shutter at X-synch speed. you win some, you lose some.
