I just bought an OM-2s in very good condition yesterday. I've loaded a roll of film but haven't shot with it yet. However, this morning I was fiddling with it and noticed it was difficult to turn the shutter speed ring from 1/500 to 1/1000. I applied a little force and it did click, and I don't think I broke anything, but...

When in manual mode, whenever I move the shutter speed ring between 1/250-1/500-1/1000 the meter doesn't move. However, when I place it into aperture priority it still reads as shooting at those higher shutter speeds.

Is this something to worry about? I'm hoping to play around with the shutter speed after I shoot this roll (too poor to waste a roll  ), but what do y'all think...Is this common

It shouldn't take force to turn the shutter speed ring, it's just connected to a a cam that links to a plastic gear at the base of the bayonet mount. If it's dirty from use it may be hard to turn. As for the metering, the camera reads off the film in aperture priority mode so the speed gets calculated when the shutter is opened. Just make sure you have good silver oxide batteries installed. Shoot the roll and see. Also don't forget to check the film door seals and change them if necessary.

It does sound like the shutter dial isn't correctly selecting those speeds. It should obviously be just as easy to select any speed on the dial. If not, something's not quite right and it will need fixing, but in the meantime, just use it in auto mode.

FWIW I almost always use my OM2 in aperture priority mode, and use the exposure compensation as needed.
