Olympus OM-1 warning: Check for foam around prism, and remove it if found

Having read this thread, I opened up my OM-1 to find the gooey mess. It was quite easy to follow the online instructions, and it is now back together. When putting the top plate back on, I found that aligning the shutter firing pin into shutter button first was the only way to do this. I also found that very slight pressure on either side of the top plate to open the recess for the viewfinder also helped the plate to slide over the finder frame. You have to be careful, however, to avoid distorting the metal top plate. Having done the seals as well, I'm now happy my OM-1 is looking like new.

I have a K-1000 with corrosion that's visible in the viewfinder, so it appears that at least some Pentaxes have this problem with corroded prism-silvering.

The K1000's made in China are prone to this problem...
