Good evening,

I'm really hoping someone can provide some insight as to why my Olympus Infinity refuses to fire off a shot. I changed the battery, but it didn't help.

I can load film, rewind film, and the self-timer even flashes. But despite all of that, the camera refuses to fire. When the shutter button is pressed, an orange light turns on in the viewfinder, but the shutter doesn't go off.

This model doesn't have the ability to turn off the flash. Could a bad capacitor be causing this issue? If so, could swapping the capacitor solve it?

The camera was gifted to me and has been in storage for years.

Thank you

I've inherited a few autofocus compact cameras, and only one of them kinda works, despite being essentially mint-in-box. One of these days I will take them apart and see if I can revive them. I've a hunch that they are failing some sort of power-on self-test, possibly due to a ribbon cable has gone brittle, or plastic gears which have cracked.

Capacitors are also a possible problem area, but the fact that you are getting a ready light suggests to me that's not your immediate problem. In any event, the photoflash caps used are often particularly narrow and long, and not easily obtained unless you can meet a minimum special order, say 1000 pieces.
