as i do from time to time, i picked up some 'junk' a digital photographer was getting rid of. you know, that ancient, useless darkroom stuff...

got some old chemicals in the batch. normally i'd just chuck 'em, and i did for some. but there are a few that might be viable, so i wanted to ask about shelf lives and all that. here's the list...would appreciate comments.

Fr (brand) X44 fine grain developer, one shot in small sealed bottles.

Kodak Rapid Sellenium toner, not sure if it's sealed

Technidol powder, in sealed pouches

Gold Chloride for toning, unsealed but capped bottle

Thiocarbamide for same

Tin cans of D-76 and D-11 powder, sealed. No idea how old it is, but it says "for film and plate", which makes it sound ancient.

They probably are all good. The one I would most suspect is the X44. The one I would not suspect at all is the gold chloride. Selenium and Technidol should both be OK. I would mix fresh thiocarbamide rather than waste the gold chloride.

Jim N: thanks! good point on the thiocarbamide, no point in wasting gold for something cheap like that.

Jim A: yes, agreed. i should use with caution, and not rely on this stuff before testing.

someone gave me some tech pan a few weeks back, so it was a nice coincidence to come across some technidol as well.

thanks!
