Hello forum members,

My dad recently died an when going through his stuff I found an old canon Ixus 24-48mm 1:45-6.2 camera. I know that you have to turn the pin on the right side of the camera but when I do that the film hatchet won‘t open.
Can anybody help me?

Greetings from Switzerland.

Probably because it's not a film camera; it is digital.

I believe it is a filmcamera because it says film open on the camera near where the hatchet is and in the manual there are pictures of how to put in the fim and stuff.

Try reading the manual I listed above; might help, but then again, the door may be broken.

On second thought, it may be loaded and have a dead battery; not allowing the film door to be opened when there is no power.

Try replacing the battery.

Welcome to Photrio.
I like your word choice of "hatchet"
I think though that people will understand things better if you refer to it instead as the "film door latch".
I've tweaked your thread title to make things clearer.
Condolences on the loss of your father.

I have an analog manual by my side, it seems the hatchet is just broken. I‘ll try to force it open with a knife maybe. Thank you for your help.

Well film door latch is just the word I was looking for, thank you for your help. Things happen

Don't force it. You really just need to put a new battery in. Those camera latches are meant to be fool-proof (e.g., if the battery is dead and you open the door with the film halfway through, it would ruin it). Put battery in and then the rewind function will follow when you press the rewind button. It's protecting you from ruining the film.

I have ordered new batteries online, we‘ll see what happens, thank you for your help.
