Did I mention that I LOVE my job? ...

I found out yesterday that I will be spending a week in Tokyo and a week in Shanghai over the next month. Although my (non-photography) work will take up the days, I will have evenings and one or two days of the weekend in each city to look for some photographic opportunities.

I've been to both cities before and have thoroughly enjoyed my time there; however, if anyone has suggestions for must-see locations in or around these cities, please feel free to share your ideas. There's every chance that I have not seen them before.

Thanks in advance.

There are a host of "photo opps" in both cities -- I'm rather fond of the surging crowds around Shibuya & Shinjuku, as well as the usual Sunday crowd around Harajuku station. If you have some time run up to Nikko -- might be prime foliage season? There are also a fair number of photo galleries in Tokyo, the Metro Photo Museum down in Ebisu, a host of mfgr's galleries in Shiinjuku & Ginza... if you go to near Ginza early in the mrning (like 4AM) stop by the Tsukiji morning fish auction. If you can run out east of the city, hang out in Sumo town. Lots of fun stuff.

I'm fond of Shanghai Old Town -- just wander around in the crowds and see stuff. Ignore the vendors (in fact if you are on a street where they start calling you in English, just go to the nexty block over). Check out the cricket market on the west end of Old Town. Ride the subways. Watch your wallet. Go bungie jumping at the old olympic stadium

Thanks guys, I will do some resarch on your suggestions. The office I will be in is very near to the Ginza, so that makes it easy. I'm also very familiar with Shinjuku from my previous trips.

I'm told by my colleagues in Japan that the weather has already become cold, so may be a little late for the leaves to be turning.. We will see.

Thanks again for the tips.
