Was opening up a recently acquired Rolleicord IIb to investigate an issue with the reflex mirror -- it was broken and moving around -- and found this interesting little metal piece in there along with it. I've replaced the mirror in a few rolleiflexes and other TLRs in the past and hadn't seen this before, nor can I find any reference to it in the rolleicord mirror replacement videos I've since watched on youtube.

It appears to be shaped to hold the mirror and clamp onto a little out-cropping in the housing. Anyone have any ideas? Is this a home-brew solution or something else? Or am I just crazy and this is a normal component of the camera? Thanks in advance.

I'm thinking its a spring mount that allows the mirror to move for the parallel ex correction, maybe ?

I would go along with it being a spring clip to hold the mirror in place.
