Obtaining Nikon F5 Data

Anyone have any idea or method for doing this?

Meta35 isn't updating their software past OSX 10.13 and I'm running 10.15, and the Nikon MV-1 card reader is more expensive than the actual camera is.

Is there any OTHER way to get the data from the camera for each roll?

I would use the tool that was original intended for the job. Nikon MC-33 cable and Photosecretary software for F5. Although I use it for the custom settings and deleting the data. I never care for the data.

Set your computer up with a partition , or whatever you call it and run/install virtual PC .
So you can run it on a different operating software to operate older versions of stuff , be it this camera or an old scanner .
Install on older version of Mac or Windows .
As long as you don't go on the internet whilst running the older , unsupported O/S there isn't any security issues .
You can then run the Meta 35 software on it .

Or do as I do and get on old P.C or laptop of eBay , just to operate and old scanner and digital cameras .
Transfer the data to a USB stick to transfer to my main computer .

What kind of cable do you have? Nikon made 1 for the PC and one for the Mac. With the Windows software and cable I can run it even under Windows 10. But I don't know about the Mac though.

I guess you're a Mac user? But at any rate you have to have a cable either Nikon made ones or one made by third party. The cable is hard to come by. I know a fellow Nikonian recently bought one for $125 from Japan.

There are a number of schematic diagram to build the cable posted on the web. It's relatively simple. The most difficult part is actually finding a connector that fit the 10 pin connector on the F5.

A few years back I made a nikon adapter (found schematic online) and the very old windows software were downloadable so I got it running through wine in linux. If all of your problem is that it wont run on your current macos you should be able to open up a older macos in a virtualbox or similar.

I thought about it before I bought the MC-33 but I am not sure if a wired remote trigger would have all the wires needed. The wired remote trigger only uses a few pin.

Install VMWare on your Mac, install a version of 10.13 on the virtual machine and run the software natively in the virtual machine.

The connector is molded so you can't really get to the pins. If all the wires are connected then you can simply cut the cable and attach whatever needed to the wires.
