As mentioned in a previous thread, I tend to use various photographs by other photographers as screen savers, and my latest is this picture by O Winston Link:-

His brilliant use of lighting and timing is quite amazing. Do others have any thoughts about his technique related to this or other pictures? And does anyone emulate this type of photography today?

In my dreams. I have read two of his books, The Last Steam Engine discusses some of his techniques.

Love his work. If my first name was Ogle I'd go by O. too. Shame about the whole Conchita fiasco.

Neat little article on him here: http://mobile.nytimes.com/blogs/lens/2012/11/16/when-steam-locomotion-ground-to-a-halt/

My fav from him:

It seems the documentary film "Trains That Pass In The Night" is not available anywhere at this point, which is such a shame. I would love to see it. Such a unique style and look, and the technical achievement - amazing!

Worth buying and reading:
The Last Steam Railroad in America, O. Winston Link 1995 ISBN 978-0-8109-8201-7
Steam Steel & Stars, O. Winston Link 1987 ISBN 978-0-8109-1645-6

It is also worth the trip to the O. Winston Link Museum
