Hello, I plan to spend time in Pittsburgh, New England and NYC in July. The main reason is to meet family, but I will also travel by myself a bit. It would be fun to catch photo exhibitions, lectures, perhaps a workshop if possible. Please let me know if you plan something yourself, or if there is something you’d like to recommend.
Thanks in ahead!
Erik

Very useful recommendations. Thanks for the reasons to visit the Boston area, and Kasher gallery looks interesting!

cameracommons.com - Dover NH usually has some shows and workshops going on.

I don't know of anything photo-related in Pittsburgh right now, but I'll check and post back if I see anything. There is the usual summer stuff going on, though - great view of the city from a Pirates game.

This is all I found in pgh - Dead Link Removed Silver Eye is a photography only gallery which does a yearly juried contest to pick some of its exhibitors for the next year. I like the idea, but I think they slant towards "social change" type of photography.

@Erik Petersson - Are you visiting the burgh itself or the area in general? I'm about an hour East Southeast from the city. Boston and most of eastern MA has enough to keep me occupied for months (well, I miss my old stomping grounds anyway).

The New England School of Photography recently moved from Kenmore Square to Waltham. They are just completing the build-out of their new darkroom, and they have a number of shorter workshops running this summer. Studio lighting, taught by Bruno, is over a weekend. he's a fantastic teacher.

I've enrolled in a number of workshops at NESOP during the past 15 years. I've always learned a lot, and the people are fantastic. My favorite teacher, Nick Johnson, teaches both beginning darkroom and zone system. Limited lecturing - he mostly works with students on their prints and helps them produce better negatives. I also really enjoyed Bruno DeBas's studio lighting workshop. Color darkroom was also excellent, but it is no longer taught.

I really enjoyed the exhibitions at Silver Eye, especially the cyanotypes. Also, the excellent Warhol museum in Pittsburgh has much photo.
Next week I’ll go to Boston and Salem and perhaps further. Really looking forward to New England!

Glad you liked Silver Eye. I went to the Warhol in June and liked it more than the first time I'd gone.

New England is great - enjoy!

That's the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem...

...not to be confused with the Peabody Museum at Harvard, in Cambridge:

I just saw this one. I love her family series a lot, while some of her later work does not touch me as much. Immediatr family is so full of tenderness, freedom, and it reminds me of my childhood summers (allthough I grew up in a different milieu). Thanks for the recommendation!

If you travel up to Canada , I have a very large Printer Proof show opening on Sat 21 July in Toronto.

How long will the show run Bob? I'll be in Toronto for 5 days in September - if it's still on then I'll definitely go!
