NUARc questions

I am playing with a NUARC 26 for the first time and when I turn on the vacum I just get a noise. I put a paper between the rubber and the glass and the paper doesn't move up. Does anyone knows how the vacum is supposed to work? My machine also has a tube (bot very long) that comes out at the back of the unit and it comes from the vacum area under the machine, is this tube supposed to hang back there?

My other question is about the time, how do I determine time base on the units the machine has.

I would appreciate any help with this.

Are you sure the tube is not supposed to be plugged in to the pump somewhere? That or theres supposed to be a guage on the end of the line. Is there any air movement at the end of the tube?

the tube coming out from the back is trowing a bit of air, yes, but just a bit and it has a white plastic insert on it.

I saw a drawing of the unit and the lower tube is connected to a longer tube that connects with the upper part of the machine. Now I know what's wrong, the machine is missing a part!!!! I will have to find that on a hardware store. Problem solved, I think?

Jaime .. silly question but did you turn the dial on the vacumn as well turn it on?

the dial is all the way in, I can turn it to the right all the way until it comes out. the thing doesn't vacum at all.

Turning the dial to the right creates maximum vacuum. The dial should stop moving at that point, not come out as your unit seems to do.

It's all the way in to the right, but something is wrong with the unit, not idea what. My next bet is to open the top part and see what's inside there. Any NUARC users around NYC want to take a look!

If all the parts check out and the pump is doing very little you may need to flush the pump. The vanes on most of these oilless pump get packed with powder eventually and needs cleaning out. This is done outside in a well ventilated area, with the pump running slowly dribble some solvent like naptha (never gasoline or similar types) into the inlet side of the pump. It will blow out the outlet end, it may be necessary to remove any hoses or muffler parts from that end. Do not allow any open flames or sparks nearby. Usually the pump will start working soon after the flushing, sometimes it needs a second flush. If this doesn't help the vanes may need replacing, a dirty dusty job but not beyond the experienced shade tree mechanic.
