Northern Virginia C-41 120 film processing

Yeah, yeah I know that "No Va" in Spanish means "It won't go" or "It does not move", but I am not talking about a car. Where can I go to get C41 120 film processed in the Herndon Virginia area?

They moved out of Georgetown to MacArthur Blvd as of March 1.

Penn Camera in Tysons will soup 120 C-41 on-site. They do a good job, at a far more economical price than Chrome/Dodge.

Maybe they are better at C-41, but chrome absolutely wrecked a couple rolls of E-6 I had done there.

Just wanted to say that I tried Dodge Chrome in Silver Spring and the C41 and E6 all look great. Will definitely be using them from now on.

I've had varying results from Chrome over the years. The last processing I had them do was a roll of 120 Ektar 100 and while the results were acceptable, way overpriced. Take Scott's advice and go to Penn. $9.98 for 120 processing and a contact sheet. Chrome's price is $18.95 for same. 5x5 proof prints are $.89 at Penn, $1.15 at Chrome. If you need exhibition quality printing, send the negatives to Bob Carnie.

I've always had TERRIBLE experiences at Penn. Both the Fair Lakes and Tysons locations have let me down, and treated me like dirt.

I'm going to stick with shipping out to Dwayne's. Inexpensive dev and scans.

With Dwaynes I had real dirt problems as well as them printing red rock in the foreground as green because they thought that it should be grass. I constantly got stuck for the cost of mailing everything back to them.

I'm hearing and reading from more people that are having/have had problems with Dwayne's. It's unfortunate because their prices are so reasonable for dev and scans...my local place (McClanahan in Warrenton) will dev 120 for $3 bucks, but to get them scanned to a disk is $15 -.-

Does anyone have experience with Dodge Chrome's pricing for scans? I requested a quote on their site, but haven't heard back yet.

I was having a problem with Penn Camera processing 120 in the past. Under the new management as Calumet, though, they're doing a stand-up job, at least at the E Street location downtown.

I think they're a little expensive for what they offer, but they're about the only game in town. I just wish they could offer real drum scans of all sizes of film. Instead, anything bigger than 4x5 (and maybe even 4x5) has to be done on an Epson flatbed scanner. Which I can do at home for free. They have an Imacon for doing medium format and 35mm scans.

So, who these days is running a pro lab besides Dodge/Chrome in the DC area? I seldom have need of one, now that I'm set up to process my own C-41 and b/w, but it would be nice to know if there were other options, especially for making large prints (I can realistically go up to 16x20 b/w at home, 20x24 if I get creative, or up to 20x24 color in the Jobo. Or most likely scan and print on the anathema device up to 17x22 for color).

I'd be less likely to use Dominion because of their location more than anything else - they're beyond inconvenient for me as I live and work in downtown DC. But always worth knowing another option.

My beef with them now is first and foremost their pricing - $10+/roll for C-41 and $11+/roll for b/w process only, no proofs or contact sheets, and it takes a week to turn it around (theoretically 3-4 days, but you have to drive out to MacArthur Boulevard, drop it off, wait for the truck to come over from Silver Spring to pick it up, get it processed, then it waits until the truck is ready to come back, then you have to find time to go out there and retrieve it. Horribly inconvenient. So it usually means drop it off on Saturday, then come back the following Saturday to pick it up. With that much waiting involved, I'll sit tight until I have enough to do a batch of C-41 at home and do it myself for $3/roll.

I am new to this forum so I am hoping that i am adhering to the appropriate protocol but McClanahan Camera in Warrenton, VA does 35mm for $2.75 a roll They were doing 120 C41 for about $4 a roll but there's no longer a distinction between 35mm and 120? It's out in the country but if you have over 10 rolls it may be worth the drive.
