Fintan can I read from your responce that you might now want to allow work other than analog to be shown? May the world stop turning.

I kinda like the 'no pixels' name for the exhibition btw.

I did like the name but after a while sounded negative sortof describing what the prints weren't and not what they were if you get me.

(Not that it's any of my business as I'm not in Ireland - it's just good to see people promoting analogue photography )

What about "NO PIXELS -IRELAND 2009". I think that the name is interesting and does encompass what the exhibition is about - traditional photography featuring work from / of Ireland.
To establish a name I feel is important,it can travel down the years with only a change of date to suit.

I agree that the name should promote what we are about rather than what we are not. No Pixels was fun/novelty name we came up with last year and it worked well but I think a new name should be chosen for a new exhibition.

Something like Pete's suggestion would be good. APUG Ireland presents "Pure Silver"

Anyway the important thing is a venue, what had you in mind Vincent, its kinda late to get one for this year?

By the way, I'm just a maybe as my time will be limited when the nipper arrives.

If the show is going to be in a Blue State, then instead of "No Pixels" how about "Just Say No to Pixels" or "Just Say No to the Dark Side"?

I'm game to offer a few prints for consideration of the elder Rodinal sniffers amongst you.

I Think No Pixels is negative and makes it seem like analog is a lesser process, we shouldn't mention the dreaded digital in the heading. I like Pure Silver as it is positive and sells the idea.
TEX is right though that we have to have a brand that can be maintained by simply adding the year on. I'll throw a few off the cuff suggestions into the ring, not all serious.

After WB Yeats : “The Cloths of Heaven” with a subtitle more photo related as that poem kinda captures what it is all about in a roundabout way. (for me anyway ) and the poem and a laymans explanation of how silver produces a photo could be the introduction on entering and on posters.

I wonder could we get the Gallery of Photography and combine with them to run 30 minute darkroom slots for schools during the day. All those teens who think Holgas are cool. And they get a quick demo of printing in the darkroom, that is the hook to get new converts. It would be good for them too and good for photography. Might get them a few converts. Sometime in September when schools are just back and still not exam driven. There has to be some synergy with business to give this traction in my opinion: Just a thought.

I think the name of it is a secondary (but important) consideration. Key question really is can we find a venue in time for this year?

Is Airfiled possible Fintan? Or do we want somewhere different?

That's my favourite Yeats poem..the words of which are painted on the ceiling of the Astrology exhibition in Birr Castle in Co. Offaly ..

This is the same Castle the Countess Mary Rosse, wife of the Earl of Rosse began experimenting with the Daguerreotype in 1842.. There's a fascinating exhibition there where many of the contents of her original darkroom are on display.. She was an amazing woman..

I haven't approached Airfield, actually Peter did that last year. I would say it's too late for this year there. TEX has suggested Dublin Camera Club before but I'm not sure if he has progressed that.

Peter this is the first I heard about your expected arrival. Congratulations to you both. Don't worry about missing out on anything. That's the great thing about analog photography it's not going anywhere, it has already arrived and will remain around without change until you have time to return.
In the meantime practice up on your baby snaps & remember Infrared should not be your first choice when shooting.

Keep the Infrared handy It works a treat on babies, just drop the filter. Also useful for portraits.
