A clump of trees on the corner of a field where water collects into a little pool and an old wodden cross amongst the trees. Been driving by this for years and it's only three miles from home. Why do we photographers have these mysterious subjects that we would love to shoot but just, for some boneheaded reason, drive by inexplicably? Gonna start a thread on this.

Every single day, on the Parkway, Turnpike, or other interstate highway; red tail hawks. They often sit just 10 feet off the ground in trees just a few feet from the shoulder. Usually by the time you see them, you have already passed them at 80mph, or there is not enough room to pull over and get some shots.

Now if I spent an entire day looking for one? Not a chance!

I was in my darkroom today with two guys being re-introduced to film and printing after a long absence.

Eyes wide and grinning
Steeley determination
Walking tall with pride
The smug feeling like an old flame is back in town

I think it is the Marine Corps birthday itself.
That isn't until the tenth of November, the U.S Marines are actually a year older than the United States formed by resolution of the Continental Congress in 1775.

Some days ago I missed my photograph of the century. Inside the entrance hall of the main station I saw two old ladies (twins dressed up in old fashioned twin look), talking to two policemen (twin look caused by uniform). They were forming a square and each couple had the identical posture.

And in my camera was Velvia 50!

Two deer crossing a busy road in front of my car as I was driving about 30 mph. I stopped just in time deer got away from the incoming traffic as well and disappeared in the woods on the other side of the road. I'm talking Hwy 27 and Steeles just North of Toronto for those who know the area. Yeah, my camera was in the trunk.

Driving home from lunch at the Farmhouse in Skagit Valley. I skirt the roundabout just outside La Conner and head east, picking up speed as there were no cars in front of me. Out of the corner of my eye I see, on my left, a clump of people gawping at the top of some very tall trees right there at the side of the road, several of them pointing little p&s digicams at the treetop, arms fully extended. Doing close to 60 now, I risk a quick glance up as I'm passing and see a bald eagle at the very top of the tree. Checking the rear view mirror preparatory to slamming on my brakes I realize that the very large semi behind me is already very close and gaining on me. :surprised: Oh well...

On the way home from work last night - about 8:40 pm, going through the countryside with low sun streaming through a heavy summer downpour against some barley fields and heavy black clouds. I'd had a couple of beers and was listening to Joe Walsh playing 'Life's Been Good' on my i-Pod.

I decided not to spoil my enjoyment by having to take action / concentrate on taking a photo. It was just a lovely, mellow moment.....

I really like this post.

1. The deep deep differences of luminosity inside the highlights and shadows of some cloud formations. They appeared as tho made of silver. I knew it would make a great B&W print if you can get the apparent luminosity values of glossy paper right.

2. The extreme silhouettes and glare of people waiting on the train platform as the sun was rising and backlighting them and the tracks and watching three trains come down.....

Because your scanner is not properly calibrated to scanning Kodachrome.

I must have missed this in August. Yes, I'm an attention whore.

I love it when my kids notice things. I think it was a discussion here that mentioned people who don't know which way the sun goes round the sky. My three all got it right without thinking. They also know the difference between a hare (front garden) and a rabbit (back).

My most recent photograph not taken was a puce-pink pile driving machine in Trieste. Next to it was a teal back-hoe digger. And in the background, a purple dumptruck.

Best shot I ever missed - gray and rainy day, and a couple gnarley old (and white) city workers were in a lift bucket, changing a large street sign from whatever-it-was to "Malcolm X Blvd". Beautiful image of times-a-changing. Well, it's still in my brain at least, perfectly lit and composed!
