For a manufacturer to sell a paper as grade 3 it has to have an ISO(R) between 80 and 95. However, VC filters have no such requirement ---- Taylor and Francis, The Variable Contrast Printing Manual

Has anyone ever heard of one? As in, one step above grade 5, which I've always known as the most contrast available.
I needed a #4 and #5, found three on ebay, #4, 5, and 6, see attached.
Was this for some specific paper?
I can't find any info about a No. 6 filter via Google.

Is the #6 filter also known as the "Spinal Tap" filter?![]()
A manufacturer can name filters them whatever they want.
Thanks for the responses, everyone. I wish I could remember Spinal Tap well enough to get those references!
They do provide a "5+" now...not sure how different from "6" it would be.
And ideas where might I find this 5+ filter?
