I was wondering if you can use a Nikonos V without the o rings. Obviously not watertight but I'd like to use it as a normal camera and would rather not have to deal with the grease every time I load another roll, plus it helps preserve the rings. The only bits I can see being an issue are a light leak from the lens ring and the back but looking at them they look fine. Anyone tried it?

If you're not concerned about waterproofing it, why re-grease the rings each time you load film?

True, I suppose would be nice to have them off to preserve them and also not have the mess of the grease.

You probably want to just keep the o-rings in the camera all the time. Taking them all out is a major ordeal.

Just talking about the 4 user replaceable ones, not taking the whole thing apart! I suppose I'll just have to shoot a roll and see what happens...

I have not been greasing mine, all seems well. I don't take it under water and don't have any particular plans to. "storage o-rings", not meant for underwater use may still be available, which might be another solution for you.

i would just leave the O Seals in, i wouldn't be surprised if they are part of the light seals too.

Leave them in but don’t bother with grease unless using underwater.
