I have to take my Nikonos in. I remove the lens but I cannot get the body apart. I need to see if I can buy a second neck strap pry tool.

I had the Nikonos IV, with the 35mm, and liked it well enough but traded or sold it a I wanted the full manual control of the V, as a foul weather camera.

I never got a V, but only because other things kept popping up to attend.

I saw a series no all that long ago, shot by a photographer in Thailand of a 'water' celebration with one of these and it captured some very nice shots, using the 35mm and 80mm.

... so recently I got an almost complete set of Nikonos V with extension tubes, lenses and a B102 Speedlight. The seller told me that he didn´t use the flash before so I have to test by my own. The thing is I never tried any analog flash before and OTOH I don´t have a lot of expectations about this old guy so I was wondering if anybody here have tried to use a generic flash with their nikonos. Can I adapt any old studio flash with my Nikonos ? I have to say that I´m not planning to use it into the water, my main idea is shooting some macro photography at home or in the forest. Thanks in advance for your replies.

It seems to work with the SB-102 speedlight. See pg 55. Are you sure he's selling a B-102 and not the SB-102?

...sorry, is the same one that you said: SB102

I can't offer much advice on the flash (I think there is a Nikonos cable that converts to normal PC-sync) but out of interest...why would you use the Nikonos for macro outside water? You just make your life incredibly difficult for no reason at all.

I have a close-up attachment that also allows you to frame macro photos. See page 73 https://www.pacificrimcamera.com/rl/01301/01301.pdf I know it works underwater but I never tried it above water.

Here's a closeup attachment kit available for $60 on eBay. You can see the three frames and lens attachments.

Yeah sure I know of those things and how they'd do close-ups in the water. But if you are not taking it in the water, for that $60 you can buy a macro lens that will be infinitely easier to use than this contraption.

I will take my Nikonos V swimming later this month or at least wading.

Hey if anyone needs a 28mm for their Nikonos, I saw a new old stock in Bell Arte Camera in Hamilton, Canada. Ordered years ago for a guy who backed out of the sale, and never sold.

If I had known a few months ago, I would have been all over it. Now I have the 28mm, 35mm and the 80mm.

I don't believe the 28mm is for above water; underwater only. The 35mm is for both underwater and above. Not sure about the 80mm.

For those not familiar with refraction, you lose about 1/3 due to it underwater as the light pass from the water through the lens into the air. So that the 35mm lens shoots at 35mm above water but will act like a 50mm underwater magnifying the apparent image by 1/3 bringing the subject closer. It's a similar effect when you see an object underwater when looking above water. If you stick a stick in to hit it, you'll miss it because the actual location is 1/3 further away.

All for above and below the water.

The lens act wider in the water, not longer.

Yes, the 80mm is the second of two Nikonos lenses that was meant to be an atmospheric picture taker as well.

Unless it's a third party or experimental lens, I do no believe any other Nikonos lenses will do double duty.

Have you replaced your "O" ring yet?

Yes I replaced all the O rings.

I do not plan on using the 80mm lens under water, only the 35mm

I'd suggest that a few good used ,B&W filters for the atmospheric photography 35 & 80 would be a more suitable investment, especially for b&w + pola. and ND with today's fast films.

Cheers

Obviously, that's not a Nikonos underwater lens. I'm assuming this lens works with a Nikonos camera. It fits the special mounting ring? Do you know if it works with the Nikonos IVa model?

Note that the 28mm U/W Nikonos lens cannot be used above water.

All the Nikonos lenses are both upward and downward compatible with the various Nikonos bodies.

I checked and my 28mm, 35mm and 80mm are good for above and below the water. I have a set of black & white filter for them, but I only use polarized lenses on my slrs of several formats.
