How much should one pay for a used, not scratched Nikon focusing screen E--for F2?

$10 to $20.

Good because I just got two for just under forty dollars, BUT, before I took a reality check, I was part of bids for one that now will go to a gent for 79.90.

Strange, at best.

I am not easily amazed but ebay has given some amazing moments, which can be confounding and amusing.
Last week of the items I bid on: A Nikon F2, just F2 attached to a 300 2.8 ED IF went for a little over seven hundred dollars, but: a Vivitar 90-180 flat field zoom, attached to nothing went for just under two hundred dollars.

Reminds me of when some of my relatives used to buy cars, only the price then went the other way.

Question.

I paid 455, average price it seems as others later went a good bit higher, for a F2AS, BUT one fellow had one listed, in good shape with a buy it now price of 379, NOT one bid.

It could be he listed only paypal as a way to pay, had a serious effect, but I have called gents who listed only paypay and told them I would not use paypal and the reason why and they took an alternative type.

Anyone have a logical guess why this bargain was left sitting on the shelf?

PS--The E screen I mentioned below is now up to $108, and the auction is not over yet.

IMO $379 is on the high side of the scale and is probably aimed at collectors or a perception that it's rare. It may be uncommon but not rare.
There's a couple of Canon F1's in the area craigslist for over $400. If the guy selling them doesn't lower the price sooner or later he's going to die with them safe in his closet.
Re: Paypal only. You may have some problem with PP but, It's a very fast and safe method of payment. You as the buyer do not have to have a PP account and pay no fees. Plus, you can take advantage of their guarantee.

I had already bid mine to my winning price or I would have contacted the seller myself.
Oddly I thought I would not get mine at my price, as mine was a low, comparatively, price compared to some before and directly after.

Standard F2s seem to sell for 225 plus or minus 50 dollars.
Having looked at past auctions, there is absolutely NO RHYME or REASON unless they are calling the seller and there are reasons not listed.
I aquired a MF-3 auto-stop back for $111, I do not know if this is high or low, but they are not too common.

I'm used to $20~$30 for a Good E Screen in a camera store. But that was years ago, and clean screens are getting harder to find. I sold a couple of spares a few years ago, and they went in the $25~$60 range.

E screens are my favorite for wides, and P screens for telephoto work. The latter are not as easily found.
