Today I went through some new arrivals, all of which should be free of issues.

The two Tamrons Adaptall-2, an 80-210/3.8~4 and a 200/3.5 are mint, the Minolta MD 28/2.8 (II) as well, the Braun VarioZoom 340M SCA had some coating on the battery contacts and the Nikon Series E 50/1.8 turned out to be the final resting place for an insect.

So I set about opening this glass sarcophagus 👻

Whatever that was, it can't stay here.

I can't get to it from the back, the lens above the aperture cannot be removed from here.

So I'll continue on the front.

Now I can recover the body.

Since there is a lot of oil on the parts, I clean with isopropyl alcohol.

There is a notch for the aperture ring instead of a ball. Clean from old grease.

The aperture register is solidly made.

Some oil, old grease and dirt had to be removed.

16.jpg

The optics are also cleaned.

The catch for the aperture ring is greased sparingly.

Installing the rear lens.

How the bayonet ring has to be attached depends on the aperture lever and the recess into which it engages.

23.jpg

The bayonet ring is made of metal and is resilient.

24.jpg

The aperture works.

The decorative ring can be easily screwed in. It's made of plastic.

A great help when disassembling the lens is the excellent tutorial on High 5 Cameras, which goes into all the details:

Nice. I wonder who let it in? (the bug)

I did not separate the helicoids during disassembly, so the adjustment of the infinity position remains the same.

I really like the material and workmanship quality of this Series E Lens with metal ring.

You shouldn't underestimate Series E at all, they are consistently good lenses.
