Congrats!
I own two sets, in Black. Those Babies are sexy little things. The faint patch is the only drawback, but just shoot away!

The black S3 2000 is one of the nicest looking cameras.
It is interesting that you mention the faint patch. All the S3's that I've seen have a much fainter patch than my older S2.
I prefer the S2 if you are only using a 50mm lens as the VF is nicer with only that set of frame lines. The S3 has 3 sets engraved, all appearing at once. Bummer.

Well four years later, I have bought a Mint condition Nikon S3 2000 with the kit lens (50/1.4) for $1300!! And I will use it!!

That seems like a good price. A local shop here in Portland has one of these in the silver chrome for sale at the moment for $2,100. (Their prices are normally run on the high side, but people pay them in part to keep one of the few analog-only shops around in business.) While I realize that most people are fans of black paint on classic cameras, I've never been drawn to this look, instead preferring black chrome or silver chrome. I like the look of black chrome on Leica's but find that I'm more drawn to the look of the silver chrome on most of the Japanese cameras. As such, I find the S3 2000 in silver chrome to be a fine looking camera.

While I find the whole story behind the Nikon rangefinder reissues to be incredibly impressive be it the S3 or the SP, I've never looked into the cameras themselves all that closely. Do these cameras parallax correction?,
