Nikon S3 2000

I recently acquired a "new" Nikon S3 2000. Still in factory wrappings, full-size leather case, 50 f1.4 lens. I can remember when Nikon announced the limited production of this model back in 2000. As it was restricted to Japan only for sale, I just filed the announcement away. Checking the website of a Leica dealer and also pre-owned camera equipment I saw he had one listed for sale. To say that it is heavy is correct, to say it's solid is correct. It is a jewel of a camera. The lens is based on a Nikon lens design, from the 50's with a Nikon S mount. No exposure meter so no batteries. I plan on using a Voigtlander meter.

So nice! I love the coloured font on the shutter speed dial. Reminds me of Technicolor from that era!

On the Nikon S3. I will try to get one.

Be sure to check the vf and RF patch. These cameras are prone to have fading RF patches and foggy VFs, especially if you choose an original S3.
Interestingly the VF and patch on the earlier S2 less affected. The S2 is a fantastic and even cheaper option if you are only going to use a 50mm lens, as that is the only frame lines it has.
Which makes for a lovely and clear view.

This 50 lens gives a ride to all Leica 50 lenses. IMO.
Is camera with itched framelines and no parallax correction worth it? I'm no too sure about it...
But no doubt it is right camera to own.
