I just received a beautiful Nikon S2 in the mail from Keh.com. I also purchased a 5cm f/1.4 sc chrome lens which arrived in the same box.

Only trouble is, I can't seem to mount the lens and I don't want to break it trying. I've attached two images. One is of the mount on the camera, and the other is the lens.

What do I need to do?

The lens is a Leica screw mount lens it is not compatible with the S2 body.

You need to either buy a nikkor in S mount or a Leica M or LTM camera.

Okay, that's funny because I definitely ordered a Nikon S-C lens...

Yep definitely a Leica screw mount lens, this is what you need. Dead Link Removed It's very possible that KEH made a mistake and not that you ordered the wrong lens. Back when I ordered the extension tubes for my RB67 2 years ago they sent me a #1 tube for the RB, but the #2 tube they sent was for an RZ. I had absolutely no trouble exchanging it, I just sent them an email and they emailed me a return shipping label.

Yes, I spoke with a rep and he acknowledged that they had mislabeled the item and set me up with the right thing.

He also said that the screw mount Nikkors go for a lot more money then the S mount, so he offered to upgrade me to a better copy of the lens than the one that I had initially thought I had purchased.

Yeah that looks like a LTM lens to me too.

I use a really nice VC 28/3.5 SC Skopar lens in Contax mount that I believe should fit that Nikon RF too. Not easily found but around. More info on this page:

Perhaps my mind will change, but I purchased this S2 with the 'intention' of only using the 5cm lens. The lens you mentioned looks beautiful, but I'm just not sure I'm ready to choose another lens at this point.

The Nikkor 50/1.4 is one of the classic "must-have" lenses if you shoot a Nikon RF. I always got great results with mine, and they tend to have fewer issues with haze and damaged coatings like Leica lenses from the same era do.

The "S.C" marking on the front ring stands for Septum (7 elements) and Coated, not S-mount. The lenses in Leica mount are marked the same as the Nikon mount ones. Nikon also made the 8.5cm, 10.5cm and 13.5cm lenses in Contax mount, which look identical to the regular Nikon mount and will fit on your Nikon body. These are engraved with a "C" on the underside of the barrel. If you buy one of these longer lenses later, make sure you don't get this version - the focusing helical is different and your focusing will be off.

The S2 is at its best and most convenient with the 50mm. lens. all other focal lengths will need accessory viewfinders up top.
Still a great camera, I used mine for over fifty years.

You will like the Nikkor lens. I just bought a later black one for my SP 2000.

I have a 105mm Nikor that I use on my Contax IIa lens and it is an excellent optic. BTW, the 'C' lens will mount and focus correctly at infinity (only) on a Nikon S camera.

Okay, fellow S2 owners! Any idea where to get a rear lens cap for the 50mm?? I have the 135 Nikkor and a spotless 35mm Voigtlander f2.5. Both came with rear lens caps, but as you well know they use the outer bayonet mount. I'll probably use the WA quite a lot, so I'l like to be able to guard the rear element.

BTW, I use the 35 - 85 mm viewfinder that came with a full Retina IIIc outfit I scored. I did have to get a hotshoe to PC gadget to prevent the viewfinder from fouling the shutter speed dial, but the viewfinder even has parallax correction. Lots cheaper than the Nikkor finder. Would love to see the Voigtlander Kontur reissued for various focal lengths....

Ditto. It's time an enterprising Chinese company offered something similar on eBay. I spent last summer shooting a Bessa L with Kontur and it was a freewheeling experience resulting in some excellent shots.

If you have a normal Kodak cassette tub snap cap and a scalpel.

Then remove the inner spigot ridge the outer snap over ridge should be a tight snap over fit, for a contax inner mount, Kiev or Nikon S lens.

Be careful of the scalpel or you may need a new avatar as Ferdo of the nine fingers.
