A MD-E that I have has stopped working. Powers up fine, but the drive mech seems to have stopped. If I touch the contacts it makes noise, but the drive mech doesn't spin. I found a nice repair manual on Google Books, but does anyone think this is fixable without getting parts? I think the clutch mech is probably shot ... ?

So basically if its powered on and attached to the camera, the red light stays on which indicates the end of the film roll .. even if there is no film in the camera.

Its on a Nikon FG

Clean all contacts on both the drive and the camera with an pencil eraser.
Alternatively, tear it apart and see what the deal is. That is if you're comfortable with it.

I did. Looks like the small plastic gear is pretty stripped ... oh well.

Most likely Nikon doesn't carry the part any longer. Your best bet would be to scan the used market and see if one is available. It would probably be cheaper to buy a used one than to fix the one you have. You can even buy a broken one from someone if the part you need is okay making it even cheaper.

I have a Nikon MD-E that I don't need. Last I checked, it was working fine and in great condition. You can have it for the cost of shipping.
