Nikon MD-12 switch? or is it for an F motor

On the MD-12 the vertical shutter option is a 2pin electrical connector so the MR-2 or MR-3 must have its own internal switch ...is that right?

I have the MD-12 and a switch just arrived, is called a Release Adapter for Nikon and has a conical nose with the button at its center but when screwed to the body the shutter is immovable and has no switch of it own. It has 3 sockets but only one has metal.

Seller call it a generic MR-2 but appears to be not, is something else ...any ideas, is it an F motor drive power adapter because I see another where all three sockets have metal.

The switch relies on two contacts to work. So..........................(!)

The MR-2 & 3 are of course the solution but this thing was supposed to be the generic ...which it is not. Have given up trying to work out what it is and have a MR-3 on its way. These Generic whatsits are on ebay as MR-x replacements and clearly they are not so maybe someone else will be able to use this advice when challenging a seller and one that says ...

Are you sure that's not a screw for a shutter cable release? That's what it looks like to me, so if you have a cable release it would come in handy.

It's the aftermarket version. Only provides a cable release socket for use with a Nikon motor drive, N2020, N8008, etc. Had one in 2005 for my original F3P's MD-4. Allowed me to do long exposures, prior to my discovering that I could just set the camera to "T", then fire it mechanically. I soon replaced it with the MR-2, since I had an AR-2 and wanted to get away from using the AR-8 adapter I'd purchased for my FM2n that I no longer owned.

With the two sockets I figured it was a cable release and wrote to the few sellers on ebay to save someone any trouble and I'm sure now that what I have is a butchered version where someone has removed one of the metal sockets for use in something else.

Two contacts are there - the metal shell is one of them. Whether it works on the OP's unit is a different matter.
