For sale is a beautiful Nikon FM3a with 50mm F1.4 AIS Nikon lens. The FM3a was made from 2001 to 2006, and based on the serial number, this one was relatively late in that production. The FM3a combined an aperture priority auto exposure system with electronically controlled shutter with a manual, match-needle system with a fully mechanical shutter that will operate at all speeds from 1 second to 1/4000 second without a battery (obviously, the meter itself requires a battery, but the shutter does not).

This camera is in excellent condition apart from a ding on the pentaprism, viewable in the photos from the front of the camera. In practice, I find I don't really notice the ding, and it has no effect on the performance of the camera. Apart from that one blemish, the black finish is very clean with just a couple of very small spots of brassing.

The lens is in excellent condition, with clean glass, solid and smooth focusing action free of play, and clean, snappy aperture blades. This setup has clearly been lightly used both by me and its prior owners. All functions on the camera and lens work perfectly and are silky smooth. The seals and mirror foam are in good shape. I hate to sell this beauty, but I have an FM2 that will cover my very limited 35mm shooting, and I need to raise funds to cover a Hasselblad outfit I am assembling (again).

Included are a body cap, a simple strap (shown in the photos), front and rear caps for the lens, and a clean UV filter. I would prefer to sell this as a set for $475 shipped in the CONUSA. PayPal preferred, and I will cover the fees.

I will consider splitting the set up for $390 for the body and $110 for the lens, also shipped in the CONUSA. I will ship abroad, but you will have to cover the shipping.

Thanks for looking.

Here is a better photo showing the ding on the pentaprism.

Am interested in the body and lens combo. My question -- being something of a perfectionist, sadly -- is, how bad is the ding?

I actually know that that is an unanswerable question. So my apologies -- but had to ask anyway. I can see from the jpg that the ding is definitely there. Anyway, I'm still interested.

The ding is definitely there, but I would say the last photo shows it at its worst. And the price is a pretty good discount from the typical price of a completely clean version.

Hi, Jeff: Yes, it's a good price and now I'm thinking... Can I get back to you tomorrow? If it goes in the meantime, then it was never intended to come this way!

I would like to complete the sale. I’m traveling today. Can I supply PayPal info either at end of day or tomorrow? Thank you.

That should be OK, though I am leaving town very early Friday AM, so I would like to be able to get this on its way to you before then. I am sending you a PM now.
