Buy 2 Canon EOS 1n or 1v camera's (one for spare) in excellent condition at a fraction of the cost of a new Nikon F6. You really won't see any difference in the photo's you'll make, the Canon EOS 1n/1v is an excellent camera, much more compact and lighter than the Nikon and you'll save lots of money that you can spend on film, paper etc. Canon lenses are excellent, widely available and tend to be cheaper than Nikon. Sure, the Nikon F6 is superb and will be a joy to own. But when your goal is to make great photo's, it's a waste of money; a Canon EOS 1n/1v will serve you just as well.

When buying on the level of Nikon Pro cameras it's not solely the quality of images produced but the tactile experience of the process. Having never handled a EOS Canon I can say nothing to that experience but my F5 is a very nice box to capture history in.

Surely you guys realize I was being facetious when suggesting the F5 and piles of film, right?

All well and good, except he said that he already has 6 Nikon bodies and a number of lenses. Starting over with a different system wouldn't be cheap!

How is the af on the f6 compared to the f5?

What are the standout Nikon AF lenses ?
28 1.4D? 85 1.4D/G? The DC twins? The super teles?

The F6 is in my opinion a more modern, technologically refined F5 at lower weight.

I only have D or AIS lenses (I want them to work with my F3 - the G cannot.) The 85 1.4D is spectacular. Don’t forget the 50 1.4 or 1.8, they are great and very low price. A well underrated piece of glass is the 180 2.8D. It costs close to nothing used, jump on it.
The 60 and 105 micros are also terrific. Running out of adjectives now :D

I have no experience with the 28 1.4 or DC lenses, am interested in hearing about them.

While my F6 is better than my F100, I cannot get over the fact that you can get an F100 for $150. What a deal for a camera that works so well with AF lenses.
Absolutely, F5 in nice shape can be had for 400 or less. I loved my F100s as long as I replaced lithium batteries often. Both my F100s got sticky.

I have the 28 1.4D, 85 1.4D, 135 DC, 70-180 Micro Nikkor, 180 2.8 D, 400 2.8 AF-I D. All work fabulous on F5, D3, D5 and D850. The focus speed is good. The F5 does great but if the subject is moving there's not enough cross sensors and the on board computer is 25 year old technology. The AF--D lenses work amazing with the DSLRs not the Z bodies due to lack of in body focus motor.
The new 28 1.4 is supposed to be amazing. My 28 1.4 AF-D will work with my Nikon F. That's cool.
