Nikon F5 users, quick question

I just got a F5 from a used camera store that has a guarantee, so i'm not too worried.

I know the camera has a problem with the DP-30. The frame counters second number does not show (the furthest number to the right), this also makes Exposure composition hard to use looking threw the viewfinder. Also the entire bottom LCD does not always turn on, when this happens, it always happens right after I turn the camera on. Turning the camera on and off will not fix it. I have to take the viewfinder off and put it back on, this fixes it every time.

The second thing, might or might not be a problem. When i'm changing focus points, the black frame indicator is very sluggish changing from one to the next. It takes a full 2 seconds to change. Fades out of the current point and fades into the new point. The cameras top lcd changes instantly and the point actually changes instantly for use, it's just the visual Q in the viewfinder. I'm not sure if this is normal or not. Im hoping somebody will let me know what there camera does.

I really enjoy this camera and hopefully with serve me correctly.

if it were me, I'd find a camera body that doesn't have these issues right off the bat. One never knows what will come along next, especially with electronic cameras already showing some issues.

Glad the shop guarantees it, but the best guarantee on the planet it the one you never have to use.

The F100 I shoot with and the F5 or so affordable today that if I were in your shoes I would look for another camera.

I have 2 F-5's and don't have either of those issues. I would look for another one.

Well I returned the camera, and will be going back to using only mechanical cameras.

The DP-30 was most likely not communicating with the body or was overloading the body resulting in the odd behavior. With a new finder the body may have been just fine.

I bought a F4s new in 1991. A set of Duracell leaked about 3 years ago killing the grip section of the MB21. I bought another off ebay from a worn out body being parted out. It doesn't look as nice as the original but functions like nothing ever happened. I never used more than 40% of the features including the multi control back I added early on but they're nice when you need or want them.

Don't let a problem body sour you from buying a good one when you come across it.

What you described are problems. I suggest that you return the camera and get one that works perfectly. I found that even Nikon service in the US can't really fix them F5 very well.

Reconsider that. You're missing out on a great camera. In all honesty that's the first time I've heard of an issue with an F5. Not that it's the first one but it shows me it's rare. I have a Nikon F I love but use the F5 more.
