Is it ailing? Asking since F3 parts bins are pretty much bare. Essex Camera in NJ?

Yes the camera has a weird problem with the pin that sticks out on the actual surface that the lens mounts to. It will not allow my older lenses to lock on.

You're not talking about the flip-up Ai tab? Asking since the only pin thingy around the mount--aside from the Ai tab--is the little pin that locks/unlocks the lens with the release button.

Yes the little pin that locks/unlocks the lens with the release button. It wiggles around and is shorter than the pin on my other nikons.

Nikon web site lists Nikon Authorized repair all over the country. My F3 went to the one in LA and came back working like new.

Found the NY center on 13th street. I have a feeling it would be cheaper and easier to just buy one from KEH then to pay for shipping and CLA.

the de3 finders are bringing a good amount of money. You should be able to buy a body from KEH, less finder for little$

Keep your F3 for parts - as it won't bring much in need of repair. But, ask KEH what they will offer for it when buying a f3 from them. I use f3s and think they have the best finder in a film slr for the body size. The newer pro bodies usually came with a motor drive as part of the body. Many inders to choose from too.
