One of my old F3's was missing a few parts so I improvised.
Photo 1 shows how digital cameras do come in handy after all. I've cut up a piece of the washer from under a Sony E lens mount and super glued it to the eye piece curtain closer mechanism. Works a treat.
Photo 2 shows the no longer used Aussie 1 cent coin fits perfectly as a cap to the connections for a motor drive. Bit of double sided tape holds it neatly in place.

What elitism!
I used a piece of used gum from the underside of a bus seat and a rusty VB cap I belted flat with a house brick and trimed up with a scrap of official Australian cricket team sand paper......wish I could get my hands on a Glider browny.
Nice work mate.

You did the unneeded repair. I would simply leave the viewfinder in the open position. I had F2AS, F3, F4, F5 and they all have the viewfinder blind that I never used. For the cap you can buy a replacement cap.

... but the ingenuity... is simply... ingenious!

We don't get VB. I would have to use a cap off a bottle of Blatz. And yes after the Blatz you get the Splatz

It's great to see your all enjoying the mirth in this. It was after I had fixed the curtain arm that I realised how incongruous it was to use a part from a digital camera to fix a film camera  Hmm it's got me thinking of another idea.

Good to know the once much-maligned 1 cent still has currency...
I'm sure Alan at Camera Lane off Lt. Bourke Street would have any number of old caps floating around, ditto Camera Exchange in Box Hill.

I LOVE you Aussies ! I want to come there when I am better after my next Op just to hear your Accent ! ( Do you still accept POMS to visit ? )
