I unearthed my old N8008s/F-801 a few months about. I had to order a new battery holder 'cause the old one was corroded. It works fine with four NiMH AA batteries or alkaline batteries.

if you meter then they read out 1.5v put them in a chain will not work --???
The F601 (simpler version of the 801) used a lithium battery and no others could be fitted, but the 801, 801s and onto the F100 all used AA's either disposable or rechargeable or even aa sized lithium. They were not particular fussy, But buy decent ones not some cheap 'knock offs', as their capacity for longevity can be extremely limited especially if the inbuilt motor-drive is used
