Howdy, APUG!
I've also been considering trying out a Nikon DX-1 Finder on my Nikon F3 (non AF version). While MIR (https://www.mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonf3ver2/finders/finder2.htm) mentions that it's not advisable to use on a Nikon F3, it also mentions that may be used on any Nikon F3 (except F3H).

Has anyone had success using a Nikon DX-1 Finder on their Nikon F3? If so, how did it function?
Thanks.

Try it and let us know. The camera normally doesn't supply power to the finder as F3 finder doesn't need power. The AF finder must have power somehow so I don't know what can be expected.

I think it'll do nothing than be an oversized de2

This is information I gleaned from the website you linked to, and the F3AF manual, which is posted at MIR. Take it with a grain of salt, I've never handled one of these myself.

The DX1 finder takes a pair of AAA batteries.

You've got to remove the normal focus screen from any F3 before mounting the DX1, as the DX1's screen is permanently attached.

It can only autofocus on the dedicated F3AF body, and only with the two dedicated lenses (and a teleconverter) made for that camera.

The DX1 finder should work as a viewfinder with manual focus or autofocus lenses on any F3.

Many (but not all) Nikkors of aperture f/3.5 and faster will allow the manual focus aid (AKA "electronic rangefinder") to function.

Might be more trouble than it's worth. This was Nikon's first attempt at an AF SLR, and it wasn't an enormous success.

Forgot it supplied its own power and could thus act as a focus confirm

It's probably easier to buy a whole f3af
