Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 35mm f/1.8G DX

Has anybody used this with a film camera, I was thinking of buying one with my D5300, and I have heard it will just about cover the full frame with Vignetting at wide apertures. I suppose I could just get the Nikkor AF 35mm f/2 D but that won't focus on the 5300, but then if I wanted to get a DSLR with the AF motor costs start going up considerably.

The G (gelded) lenses do not have aperture rings, and thus won't work with most Nikon film cameras except certain newer models, or in very limited ways. Consult your camera manual.

It will work, Terry. Just that the older cameras will have the aperture set to f22.
Focus anyway is via the over-ride ring!
A bit of fine vignetting will occur at that aperture though.

Distance plays a big factor in it too.

I had a look in a shop and now I have to have one, I will be using it wide open or close to it most of the time and often in low light so the Vignette will look fine for the sort of street shooting I will be using it for. I've always wanted a lens that's both wide angle and wide aperture for street photography with shallow DOF, not much I can do with a 28mm 2.8.

I sold the f2D because I wasn't happy with the results and I bought the Ai-S version. I've been eyeing the new 1.8G ED, though.

I bought the 35mm 1.8G about 6 months ago, I used it with my d3200. Soon after I bought a nikon f65 for like £8 to use my 50mm 1.8g on, I also tried the 35mm 1.8G and it works great, not a lot of vignetting until about f/16. Here's an image shot indoors at F1.8 on Kodak400.
